Phuket, the largest island in Thailand and most popular destination after  Bangkok, is the only island having provincial status in Thailand and was a regional headquaters as well, with a rich and colorful history. Extending 48.7 kilometers in length and 21.3 kilometers at its widest point, it encompasses scenic diversity in its widely different beach locales, its urban centre, and in its hilly interior of both virgin forest and cultivated plantations.

Phuket's beaches are very beautiful on the west side. On the east, the area is flat and also full beaches, most of them are muddy. Nowadays the tourists are concentrated at certain beaches , Bang tao,Patong,Karon,Nai Harm, Chalong Bay and Kata Beach. There are in total 17 sandy beaches many of them untouched by the tourist industry.
